On the eve of the UK’s definitive departure from the European Union at the end of January 2020, Pro Europa held an event on Place du Luxembourg to present an oak tree brought over from Great Britain as a tribute to the enduring friendship between the British and their fellow Europeans.
In line with its European and international vocation, the Municipality of Etterbeek has kindly provided a space for the oak in the Fontenay-Sous-Bois garden.
Pro Europa Brussels is an association mainly comprising British living in Belgium who support the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union. Ahead of the Brexit referendum, Pro Europa campaigned for the UK’s continuing EU membership. Following the referendum and in particular from 2018 on, Pro Europa supported the campaign for a second referendum with a number of events to mobilise public opinion and draw media attention to the deep desire of a large section of the British public to remain within the EU.
